Work with recycled vintage and contemporary materials – including collected linens, trimmings, beads and embroidery thread – to create your own artwork celebrating emotion, symbology, narrative and free expression.

Textile artist Louise Meuwissen will guide you through the steps of drawing, embroidering, and embellishing a personalised piece, providing a wonderful, take-home memento of the MIRKA exhibition.


Louise Meuwissen is an Australian artist who works with textiles and found materials to make detailed embroidered paintings, sculptures and wearable art. Louise is interested in adornment and decoration, the connections between labour and luxury, and the ways we express ourselves and connect with each other through the objects we choose to collect and discard. Her practice is underpinned by her research investigating devotion, the Sublime, hoarding, storytelling and mythology.
Louise’s work has recently been exhibited at Sydney Contemporary, Spring 1883, Heide MOMA, Wangaratta Art Gallery and Manly Art Gallery & Museum. She has conducted workshops with institutions such as the NGV, Royal Melbourne Show, Craft Victoria, City of Kingston, and City of Darebin.”
